Make a coffee, sit down and read ALL of this.........
Okay boyz & girlz the first edition of this was in November here is the latest s**iest version with "more" helpful tips.....
Read it all, and hopefully it will make sense.....?!
Have just had a gander at the Gallery section in the LSC Members area. Some wicked pics going up = well done, post more & let us all know when they go up.
But some people are not attaching Thumbnail pics - if memory serves me well all you have to do is just 'browse' in your files & fill both boxes with the same details (see pic below).
Then when you send an e-mail to the group all you have to do is enclose the URL like this: http://www.lscmembers.co.uk/images/gallery/images/South%20and%20Central%20America/026_28.JPG or this: http://www.lscmembers.co.uk/images/gallery/images/South%20and%20Central%20America/025_27.JPG
Not attaching Thumbnails means that more people will look at the image, and it makes the gallery look cool & not full of naff grey boxes!
The official blurb:
What is a thumbnail?
A thumbnail is just a smaller version of the main image you want to show. Thumbnail's are used so that many pictures can be viewed quickly onscreen at the same time. The speed difference is made by thumbnail's being of a smaller actual viewing size but also as they are often slightly more compressed. Thumbnails can be made on pretty much any desktop image editing software - just reduce the size of your image and save it out as a different one.
But I don't know how to create a Thumbnail:
Part 1 - As to thumbnails & additional software, if you have a windows pc then you already have the software!!! - It's called 'Paint', you can find it under Accessories in your Programs. When open, all you do is open the pic, then go to 'Image', 'Stretch/Skew' and simply reduce the 'Horizontal & Vertical' percentages by 50%, and that will enable you to create a thumbnail. I'm sure there are easier easier ways to do it, but that is how I would suggest?!
Part 2 - All you have to do is save a smaller file size for each image (say under 200kb), & upload that in the Thumbnail box. Then the Original Image (under 900kb) can be uploaded in the Main Image box – get it?
Hope this helps ?!

|
|
We now have a new Gallery system which allows you to easily upload your pictures, a Flickr-like system if you like.
Thus allowing you to simply include the link of your pics in any LSC e-mails. This means you will not crash the e-mail system with big .jpg files, as well as keeping your images around for eternity in the LSC Gallery.
Simply Login to the Members Area, to use......
Examples:
http://gallery.lscmembers.co.uk/d/1913-1/Cayton.jpg
http://gallery.lscmembers.co.uk/d/1968-2/DSC04347b.jpg
So please note, big attachments (as per previously) will be actively discouraged in e-mails, simply post your pics in the Gallery and then right click with your mouse, get the link and put that in the e-mail instead. That way you will not overburden / crash our e-mails system or the recipients web access.
Hope this is clear, thanks (see troubleshooting notes below).
Any issues contact me directly.

Trouble Shooting Notes........
1: now that it is live I am sure there will be issues as we go along, as this is a new system please bear with us.
2: just to confirm, we are aware of an issue of date order in each gallery, we are working to resolve this minor issue (probably a manual thing – so bare with us).
3: Slow upload of pics is due to......A. The size of your pic, but B. More importantly the “upload speed” of your broadband connection – this is all at your end, not ours!
4: To add an item to the Gallery, you go into the folder, eg: South West, you then click on the left “add item”, now you can add two items at a time, or........you can choose the tab on the top left “upload applet” and assuming you have java enabled you can batch upload from your picture file, just drag and drop – make sense? - no! - that’s fine I am still learning too, call me if you get stuck...... |

Ok, it is really pretty straightforward, you do have to engage your eyes and brain but it is all there for you.
To add a photo to a Folder, eg: the Wales folder.......
1. Open the folder, that is to say go into it
2. On the far left you will see add a photo / item - click that!
To delete a photo you have added to a folder / area in error.....
1. Underneath the photo there is a drop down box.....
2. Select delete
3. Do you really want to delete? yes / no!
To move a photo (similar process to deleting, as described above).
No you can't create new Folders, only I can. But with 18 folders covering all the continents (and sub-folders - eg: Europe), you should find a place for your photo.
To send the link to your photo in an e-mail, open / view the photo, ie: open it, fully - don't just use the thumbnail in the folder, or it will be mini. Then simply, right click, copy address, then paste this url into your e-mail, eg: http://gallery.lscmembers.co.uk/d/1926-2/DSC04317b.jpg
We would always recommend testing that your links work prior to sending an e-mail to the club - you do this by sending it to yourself, and testing it.
Still stuck? - then try this.......

Any other questions????
