I've been using twitter for a while now and there are loads of surf related people to follow a couple that i've found useful are @newquaysurfer who gives daily reports and pics of Fistral and @wittsurfshop which gives surf reports for the witterings if you ever fancy a day's jaunt down there.

My user name is @vaughan http://www.twitter.com/vaughan if you fancy becoming twitter buddies.

For pictures I use Flickr - http://www.flickr.com/photos/vaughansphotos/sets/ rather than sending people heavy e-mails it is much easier to send a link to the pics on Flickr and it can be a great way to find other peoples surf pics like this one http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnhook/3911269588/ which I found because it was taken with the same waterproof camera that I have.

If you have surf pics that are sitting on your hard drive then why not stick them on Flickr and let everyone have a nose.

if you are a twitter/flickr user - post up your details here or get in touch direct if you are shy!

Vaughan,

Just a quick reply, we don't use Flickr as we have our own Gallery system, just Login to the Member's Section: http://www.lscmembers.co.uk/index.php (see your "Welcome" e-mail, also read: http://www.lscmembers.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=164 )

We are redeveloping the new website and Gallery and posting pics by the end of November (I hope!) will be a lot easier and clearer than the current way.

The advantage of posting in the LSC Gallery is.....
- they are there for everyone to see forever
- you don't need to send heavy e-mails with huage jpg attachments as you just cut and paste the url of the pic into the e-mail you are sending, eg:
http://www.lscmembers.co.uk/images/gallery/images/Scarborough%20Trip/IMG_1469b.jpg

http://www.lscmembers.co.uk/images/gallery/images/Scarborough%20Trip/IMG_1473b.jpg

I should add if there was someone who wanted to get involved in the club and create a post for themselves that dealt with Social Media stuff etc. we would be more than stoked - call and chat.

Hope this helps.

-Ben

We now have a new Gallery system which allows you to easily upload your pictures, a Flickr-like system if you like.

Thus allowing you to simply include the link of your pics in any LSC e-mails. This means you will not crash the e-mail system with big .jpg files, as well as keeping your images around for eternity in the LSC Gallery.

Simply Login to the Members Area, to use......
Examples:
http://gallery.lscmembers.co.uk/d/1913-1/Cayton.jpg
http://gallery.lscmembers.co.uk/d/1968-2/DSC04347b.jpg

So please note, big attachments (as per previously) will be actively discouraged in e-mails, simply post your pics in the Gallery and then right click with your mouse, get the link and put that in the e-mail instead. That way you will not overburden / crash our e-mails system or the recipients web access.

Hope this is clear, thanks (see troubleshooting notes below).

Any issues contact me directly.

-Ben

Trouble Shooting Notes........
1: now that it is live I am sure there will be issues as we go along, as this is a new system please bear with us.
2: just to confirm, we are aware of an issue of date order in each gallery, we are working to resolve this minor issue (probably a manual thing – so bare with us).
3: Slow upload of pics is due to......A. The size of your pic, but B. More importantly the “upload speed” of your broadband connection – this is all at your end, not ours!
4: To add an item to the Gallery, you go into the folder, eg: South West, you then click on the left “add item”, now you can add two items at a time, or........you can choose the tab on the top left “upload applet” and assuming you have java enabled you can batch upload from your picture file, just drag and drop – make sense? - no! - that’s fine I am still learning too, call me if you get stuck......

Ok, it is really pretty straightforward, you do have to engage your eyes and brain but it is all there for you.

To add a photo to a Folder, eg: the Wales folder.......
1. Open the folder, that is to say go into it
2. On the far left you will see add a photo / item - click that!

To delete a photo you have added to a folder / area in error.....
1. Underneath the photo there is a drop down box.....
2. Select delete
3. Do you really want to delete? yes / no!

To move a photo (similar process to deleting, as described above).

No you can't create new Folders, only I can. But with 18 folders covering all the continents (and sub-folders - eg: Europe), you should find a place for your photo.

To send the link to your photo in an e-mail, open / view the photo, ie: open it! Then simply, right click, copy address, then paste this url into your e-mail, eg: http://gallery.lscmembers.co.uk/d/1926-2/DSC04317b.jpg

We would always recommend testing that your links work prior to sending an e-mail to the club - you do this by sending it to yourself, and testing it.

Still stuck? - then try this.......

Any other questions????
