Now that we have a updated Gallery from Jan 2010 you must send all pics as links in club e-mails.

The reasons for this being.......
- we have spent money developing the gallery, so please use it
- big attachments can crash the e-mail system
- sending big attachments can create issues for users accessing the internet on low bandwidth connections (smartphones / laptop dongles etc. etc.)

The advantage of posting in the LSC Gallery are.....
- they are there for everyone to see forever
- you don't need to send heavy e-mails with huage jpg attachments as you just cut and paste the url of the pic into the e-mail you are sending, eg:
http://www.lscmembers.co.uk/images/gallery/images/Scarborough%20Trip/IMG_1469b.jpg

---------------------------------------------------------------

Adding Pics etc........

Ok, it is really pretty straightforward, you do have to engage your eyes and brain but it is all there for you........

To add a photo to a Folder, eg: the Wales folder There are 18 folders to choose from, please ensure you post in a relevant folder).......
1. Open the folder, that is to say go into it
2. On the far left you will see add a photo / item - click that!

To delete a photo you have added to a folder / area in error.....
1. Underneath the photo there is a drop down box.....
2. Select delete
3. Do you really want to delete? yes / no!

To move a photo (similar process to deleting, as described above).

To send the link to your photo in an e-mail, open / view the photo, ie: open it! Then simply, right click, copy address, then paste this url into your e-mail, eg: http://gallery.lscmembers.co.uk/d/1926-2/DSC04317b.jpg

We would always recommend testing that your links work prior to sending an e-mail to the club - you do this by sending it to yourself, and testing it.

Still stuck? - then try this.......

--------------------------------------------

Trouble Shooting Notes........
1. Slow upload of pics is due to......A. The size of your pic, but B. More importantly the “upload speed” of your broadband connection – this is all at your end, not ours!
2. Just to confirm, we are aware of an issue of date order in each gallery, we are working to resolve this minor issue (probably a manual thing – so bare with us).
3. No you can't create new Folders, only I can. But with 18 folders covering all the continents (and sub-folders - eg: Europe), you should find a place for your photo.

Any issues should be directed to the LSC IT King.

Hope this helps......

-Ben

I've got it to work, but not by the options that you suggested. Maybe it's my computer.

When right clicking, using internet explorer:

If I select "Copy Shortcut" I get this link:
http://gallery.lscmembers.co.uk/v/South+West/Clean+morning+LHer.jpg.html?g2_imageViewsIndex=1
which does not work.

I had to go to "Properties" to get this:
http://gallery.lscmembers.co.uk/d/5499-2/Clean+morning+LHer.jpg

I think that is important that trips are written up to keep the stoke. Pictures paint a thousand words.

for any mac users, I found the following (Using OS 10.6.2):

What doesn't work: if the link you're pasting in has .html at the end, and states the file location using the names of the folders and subfolders for the photo's location in the gallery (rather than a numeric code) then it will require people to log in rather than coming up automatically.

What seems to work: On a mac, you need to right click the image in the gallery (ctrl click) and select 'copy image address', rather than 'copy link' to get the right url. When you come to paste it into your email it may appear as a short version (still seems to take you to the right page)- if you want the link written in full in your mail, open it yourself and then copy and paste the full version from the address bar in your browser to be on the safe side.

There are two sections in this document:

How to upload photographs to the gallery and how to insert links to the photos into emails.

How to upload photos to LSC picture gallery

1. Go to the LSC member login page and login with the latest user credentials. If you don’t know them, then you either not a member anymore or didn’t bother to read “Welcome to the LSC” document. Read the Document, for membership -- contact http://www.londonsurfclub.com/,

2. On the main LSC members page click on the Gallery:

3. On the main Gallery page choose the area you want to add your photo to. (You might also add your own albums, but do check if similar area/album is already there – just helps to keep the gallery tidy). In this case I want to upload photo to Europe->Portugal album, so I first click on Europe and then on Portugal:

4. Once in the album area, click on the “Add items”

5. On the Add items page click on Browse

6. Choose the file you want to upload and select “open”

Do steps 5 and 6 for all photos you want to upload. When you are finished, click “Add Items” at the bottom of the page. You should see the upload progress bar indicator:

7. If upload is successful you will see “Upload complete” page with links to your newly uploaded files. If you click on the filelink, it will take you to the page in the gallery where your file is.

Congratulations, now you have your photo uploaded to the Members gallery

How to insert correct links to uploaded photos to lsc emails

1. Go to the image page in the Gallery (or just click on the file link on the “Upload complete” page from step 7 in the previous section.

2. Depending on your browser the next steps will be slightly different. Below are instructions for Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. (I don’t have Mac with Safary, but the actions should be similar to Firefox ones I think. )

If you have Firefox:

Right click on the image and select “Copy Image Location”

If you have Internet Explorer

Right click on the image and select “Properties”

In the properties dialog window select “Address URL” and either press Ctrl-C, or right click and select “Copy

If you have Google Chrome:

Right Click on the image and select “Copy image URL”

3. Paste the link into your email message:

You can now send your message and everyone should be able to see the images just by clicking on the link in the message.

IF you experience any problems with this, first check that you follow the instructions, if this still doesn’t work, contact Eugene or Ben,
